Bicycle Safety Quiz
5A)
Congratulations!
Your answer is correct. Riding in the "door zone" is one of
the most frequent causes of crashes on busy downtown streets. To avoid the "door
zone" you should travel outside of the painted parking marks on the pavement. In
the unfortunate event that you are involved in a crash with a car door, let your
attorney know that CVC Section 22517 places the blame on the motorist. Section
22517 reads, "No person shall open the door of a vehicle on the side available
to moving traffic unless it is reasonably safe to do so and can be done without
interfering with the movement of such traffic, nor shall any person leave a door
open on the side of a vehicle available to moving traffic for a period of time
longer than necessary to load or unload passengers.
Pedal on!
