Although this section is called 'Provence' the route described here
goes through a number of regions, including Alpes Maritimes, Haute
Alpes, etc. It starts at the coast in Nice, heads for the
Col de Bonette and over to Gap before descending into
Provence.

This is the view from D2565 heading north
out of Nice, along the la Vesubie river.
Once you get out of the heavy Nice traffic, there are a number
of good cycling routes up in the hills, and beyond.

From the col de la Bonette, I headed along D900 to Gap, where
I ran into the Cofidis pro cycling team out on the road. I continued
past Gap, and went through this very small town on the way to Orange.
